Knit All November, Day 1

First Project: Socks
I’m starting very much in the middle of a knitting project. I started my first sock a couple years ago, put it away, found it a couple weeks ago, and took it apart to start again, because I didn't remember what I was doing, and finished it last week. The goal is to learn to make socks, not to make the best socks. I'm using the pattern Firefly's Beginner Socks, supplemented with Purl Together's Knit Socks videos. The yarn is something I found in my stash, almost definitely acrylic.
My favorite thing about this project so far is the way you can really tell which one is the first sock. I love the way knitting lets me see real improvement in my skills with just a little bit of practice. I try to remind myself that’s the case for any skill, even the ones that aren’t as tangible.
Fundraiser: Cancer Research and Care
This fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is deeply personal to me. My dad passed away in March of 2025 of a very rare cancer called intimal sarcoma. Although my parents were both very complimentary of his doctors and the quality of care they provided, I really don’t think they knew how to handle his illness, and I often wonder if other doctors would have been more aggressive with treatment. It seems likely no doctor in the world knew how to win him more time, and any variation would be guesswork rather than better science.
American Cancer Society funds research and offers patient support to help eliminate cancer and ease the mental and physical suffering it causes.
